History of Circle B Farms

We can’t wait to share a bit of the Farms’ history with you. Our story began with Sam and Patty Blackstone, the original owners who transformed a simple hobby into the thriving farm you see today.

In 1986 and 1987, Sam and Patty planted the first 700 Highbush Blueberry bushes here in Caribou, Maine. By August of 1990, they opened Aroostook County’s first “You Pick” Highbush Blueberry spot, inviting the community to try their hand at picking Maine’s signature crop, fresh blueberries. As word spread and demand grew, they developed a plan in 2001 to expand their blueberry fields. Today, thanks to their vision and hard work, Circle B Farms boasts over 10,000 Highbush Blueberry bushes spread across 10 acres.

The Blackstones didn’t just stop at blueberries. They invested in a state-of-the-art packing line, a cooler, and increased freezer capacity. They even established a USDA-certified processing kitchen, allowing them to cut, slice, cube, mix, and pack a variety of farm-grown, Maine-grown, products for institutional kitchens.

Circle B Farms’ blueberries and other fresh produce reach far and wide, from local grocery stores in Houlton to Fort Kent, to large grocery stores throughout New England and New York. We also proudly supply our state’s food bank, Good Shepherd Food Bank of Maine, through their Mainers Feeding Mainers program and partner with Green Meadow Farm’s distributors.

We continue to grow, both literally and figuratively. We’ve expanded our broccoli harvest from 150 acres in 2022, with plans to reach over 800 acres by 2025. Our commitment to sustainable farming practices ensures that we provide the highest quality produce while caring for the environment. Our dedication to quality and sustainability extends to our pest control methods. We use Integrated Pest Management (I.P.M.), which means we scout our fields for pests and diseases and prioritize natural and organic solutions.

At Circle B Farms, you can still enjoy the charm of our “You Pick” tradition. Our berry shed remains a welcoming spot, where customers are greeted with a smile and the invitation to pick all the Highbush Blueberries they can carry! And thanks to Patty’s additions, kids can play while you pick to your heart's content.

Thank you for supporting local farming and being part of the Circle B Farms family. We look forward to welcoming you to our farm and sharing the fruits of our labor with you!

See you soon,
